Linnaean Classification:
Domain: Eukarya Kingdom: Animalia Phylum: Chordata Class: Mammalia Order: Rodentia Family: Muridae Genus: Gerbillus Species: Gerbillus perpallidus Conformer: It is a conformer because it can maintain body temperature. Migration: Although pallid gerbils do not migrate, and they stay in the same region, they do not hibernate, as they cannot survive the cold so they are not found in areas where they need to hibernate. So, they cannot be a dormant species. Furthermore, although they do not have a specific migration pattern, they do travel throughout the desert looking for food, making them a migrant species. Specialist: It can only live in a specific biome, specifically the desert. Also, it has a small appetite of small bugs (e.g. mealworms and crickets). Consumer: It cannot make its own food. Carnivore: It eats only bugs. Niche: It mainly resides in deserts of northwestern Egypt. It's predators are birds of prey (e.g. owls) and snakes. It eats crickets and mealworms. It cannot tolerate cold temperatures, thus is only found in warm environments. Pallid gerbils breed all year long, with a gestation period of 20-22 days. There are usually 4-5 offspring in one litter, but there can be as many as 8. |
